It's a good thing that Heinrich Kalkhoff hoped for more out of life than just delivering letters. Not that this job was any less important, but Heinrich's talents lay elsewhere... He sold the first bike that he had developed entirely on his own in 1927, and not quite ten yearslater, he already had almost forty employees, who made 250,000 bikes happy with their work. Although the Second World War temporarily brought the production of Kalkhoff bikes to a standstill, the team behind them had recovered by 1953.

In addition to motorized two-wheelers, 5,000 bicycle frames per day were produced in the following years – for bicycles intended for leisure and everyday use.
