Which stems are available for road bikes?
Even the smallest change in dimension influences the riding position and thus the riding comfort as well as a favourable posture. Therefore, you determine the relevant advantage for you with the individual choice of stem.
If you complain about neck or back pain while cycling, you should change your position. You can gradually adjust the cockpit and optimise it for you to get the most out of your road bike.
For example, a 20 mm wider handlebar can be compensated with a 10 mm shorter stem. In general, the reach of the handlebars can be calculated 1:1 with the stem reach. A short stem makes the bike more manoeuvrable and a slight downward tilt provides a more comfortable riding position. A long stem, on the other hand, allows for a sportier riding position and promises increased smoothness.
Stem length and angle
Stem length is the distance of both axles from the head tube to the handlebar. When compensating the handlebar rake with the stem length, the position at the brake handles remains the same. The handlebar grip, on the other hand, is shorter in this case.
The angle can also be influenced. The stem angle and handlebar drop ultimately have the same effect. 6-degree stems are the most popular. These are just right for the sporty, ambitious rider, whereas 35 degrees provide a more relaxed posture.
