Cube triathlete Frederic Funk wins Challenge St. Pölten 70.3
Frederic Funk secured his first victory of the season with a courageous race at the strongly contested middle distance in St. Pölten, Lower Austria.
After the swim in the 15.5 degree Viehofer See, the 23-year-old was still part of a four-man chasing group that was just under a minute behind the leading athletes after the first discipline. On the bike course, he took the lead with his CUBE Aerium and continuously extended his lead to over 4:30 minutes thanks to the fastest bike split of the day. In the final half marathon, he dominated the field and continued to keep his pursuers at a distance.
In the end, Frederic stood at the top of the podium in 3:44.49 minutes with a lead of 4:36 minutes. After not being able to reach 100% of his potential in the last few races, he celebrated a liberating success and proved his strong form.
